TYPES OF VISAS

Visa for Education - Student/Internship

Foreigners may apply for an education visa only after they have enrolled in a Turkish university, school or a language course certified by the Ministry of Education.

Student Visa:

Requirements

  1. Passport with an expiration date at least 60 days beyond the “duration of stay” of the visa, e-Visa, visa exemption, or residence permit.
  2. One passport size photograph of the applicant
  3. An acceptance letter from the Turkish University or school or language course certified by the Ministry of Education
  4. If you would like to apply for a student visa as an Exchange Student, a confirmation letter from your school in United Kingdom is required
  5. Non British Citizens also required minimum 1 year valid residence permit
  6. Latest 2 months bank statement which shows reasonable amount of money.( at least £3000 for 6 months stay)
  7. If you have sponsor, sponsor letter, bank statements and passport copy of sponsor.
  8. Accomodation details, if  available.

Internship Visa:

Requirements

  1. Visa application form to be filled in capital letters.
  2. Passport with an expiration date at least 60 days beyond the “duration of stay” of the visa, e-Visa, visa exemption, or residence permit.
  3. One passport size photograph of the applicant
  4. An acceptance letter for internship from the Turkish authorities
  5. Student letter or graduation certificate from the university in UK
  6. Latest 2 months bank statement which shows reasonable amount of money.( at least £3000 for 6 months stay)
  7. If you have a sponsor, please submit sponsor’s letter, bank statements and passport copy.
  8. Accommodation details, if available.

VISAS

Visas for Work

Requirements:

  • Application Form : Completely filled with your details.
  • Job Offer Letter : Proof of your prospective job in form of a job offer letter, bearing prospective employer’s details, stamp and signature on the company’s letterheaded paper
  • Employment Contract: The signed employment contract between the applicant and the employer
  • Job Title: The applicant’s job title must be clearly identifiable both in English and Turkish versions in related documents. Turkish version of the job title will be considered for the application and it should not exceed 35 characters, including spaces. If no Turkish contract is available, the title in Turkish must be served in brackets. For example, General Director (Genel Müdür). This is very vital for the application. Any mistake might require lodging fresh application.
  • Work Visa Duration: The requested duration and dates for work visa MUST MATCH in Job Offer Letter, Employment Contract and Application Form. In case of any discrepancy, the Employment Contract will be taken as basis for the respective application and the applicant shall be liable for any problem arising directly or indirectly from such discrepancy. It should be either an exact date range like 01/09/2015 – 31/08/2016 for one whole year OR include a phrase like “to commence one (1) year from granting of work permit”. While the applicant can make full use of work visa duration, the applicant might lose some duration from the total.
  • Applying dancers, animators/entertainers, acrobats must fill the three (3) page form.
  • Passport: Applicant’s passport must be valid for the duration of employment and additional 60 days
  • Passport Photocopy: A clean, legible copy of the applicant’s passport
  • Permanent Resident Card: Non-British passport holders must present a valid resident card for UK
  • Photo: One (1) passport size photo which SHOULD BE FREE OF any crease, imprints or any other marks (e.g.: caused by paper clips)

TYPES OF VISAS

Visa Information for an Academic Employee

University instructors are exempt from work permit. However, they have to submit a letter from Turkish Higher Education Board (YÖK). Additionally, they will need to submit the following documents to this Consulate General in person:

  • Passport with an expiration date at least 60 days beyond the “duration of stay” of the visa, e-Visa, visa exemption, or residence permit.
  • Visa application form to be filled in capital letters.
  • One passport size photograph of the applicant
  • A proof of a job offer normally in the form of a letter from the prospective employer

Visa for Filming/Scientific Research/ Archeological Excavation:

If you wish to prepare documentary films related to scientific research and observation, make commercial and promotional films or conduct archeological excavations within Turkey you must obtain prior permission from Turkish authorities. You will thereafter be issued with the appropriate visa. Please contact the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office in London for commercial and promotional films and the Turkish Embassy in London for all other permissions. Visa for Academic Research:

TYPES OF VISAS

Visa Information for Business Visits/Conferences/Seminars

Requirements:

  • Visa application form to be filled in capital letters.
  • Passport with an expiration date at least 60 days beyond the “duration of stay” of the visa, e-Visa, visa exemption.
  • One passport size photograph of the applicant
  • A detailed invitation letter from relevant authorities in Turkey.
  • A reference letter from your employer in United Kingdom. (if you will be sponsored by your company, then it should be noted on the letter)
  • Latest 2 months bank statement which shows reasonable amount of money. (If you are not sponsored by your company)
  • Non British Citizens are also required minimum 6 months valid resident permit on the date of application.

TYPES OF VISAS

Visa for Representatives of Tour Operators

Representatives of tour operators need to obtain a “Tour Operator Rep.” visa. This type of visa is multiple-entry, and allows holders to stay up to 8 months a year without needing a work permit. Please note that this visa can be issued once in a period of 12 months. Representatives of tour operators who intend to stay in Turkey for more than 8 months a year or do not fulfil application requirements indicated below and/or provide further documentation that may be requested by Consulate officials upon “Tour Operator Rep.” visa applications will be advised to apply for a work permit. Those applicants who do not have relevant work experience in the tourism sector or who do not hold degrees/certificates from tourism related education institutions may opt to obtain an “Exemption Document” issued by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. The contents of the “Exemption Document” will be determined by the said Ministry. The following documents are initially required for a “Tour Operator Rep.” visa application. Please be advised that further documentation may be requested as deemed necessary by Consulate officials.

Requirements:

  • Person who applies for a visa as a tour operator should have relevant work experience / education in this field and provide reference from previous work place. Alternatively, the applicant must provide a certificate of degree / course completion.
  • A letter from the tour operator/travel agency in Turkey addressed to this Consulate. The letter should state the current position of the visa applicant, his/her purpose of visit and his/her duration of stay (up to 8 months).
  • A copy of Commercial Register Certificate and Registration Certificate of Chamber of Commerce of the tour operator company in Turkey
  • A letter from employer in the UK including detailed information of employment status and work experience.
  • A copy of employment contract
  • Passport with an expiration date at least 60 days beyond the “duration of stay” of the visa, e-Visa, visa exemption, or residence permit.
  • Visa application form “must be filled in full”
  • A passport size photo attached to the visa application form
  • A self-addressed envelope (no stamp is necessary) to receive your passport back by post. (If you wish to have your passport returned by post, you should submit your documents to this Consulate General at least two weeks prior to the departure date for Turkey)

Travelling in a Muslim Country

Personal Presentation It is an insult to show the bottom of your foot to another person. It is best to keep both feet on the floor.  Modest dress is best for men and women.

Boundaries When asking about a Muslim person’s family, keep questions general and do not ask specifically about the spouse.

Handshaking Men shake hands.  Women should wait until the man extends his hand. Pious Muslim men may not shake hands with women.  Pious Muslim women do not shake the hands or touch men who are not in their families. Rather, they might simply put their hand over their hearts to show their sincerity in welcoming the visitor.

Etiquette Generosity and thoughtfulness are extremely admirable and respected in the Middle East and Arab cultures.

  • If you are about to eat, even if there is only enough for one person, it is considered polite to offer the food. The offer might be politely declined, but it is important to extend the offer.
  • Standing up for new guests and especially older, higher-ranking people is important. Typically, elderly people are greeted first. Men also are expected to stand when a woman enters.

Travelling in a Muslim Country (Continued)

Concept of Time The concept of time in the Middle East is generally seen as fluid, and many Middle Easterners are more relaxed about when an appointment or event ends or begins, both at work and at a social gathering. Visitors should always be on time or notify the host if you will be delayed because of traffic or other reason. But it would not be unusual for visitors to be kept waiting.

Interaction between Males and Females It is common to see men walking together holding hands, but men and women generally do not unless they are married or related.

Food The act of communal eating is a highly recognized outward expression of friendship in the Middle East.

  • Do not eat with your left hand, which is considered unclean.  Also, in many places, it is considered polite to leave a bit of food on one’s plate.
  • Do not ask for pork or pork products. Muslim tradition frowns on consuming pork, and observant Muslims consume Halal food, which involves a particular preparation of the meat.
  • Arab hosts will always offer tea or coffee. A gracious guest will accept the gesture.
  • Observant Muslims do not drink alcohol or smoke.

Photography Do not take photos in mosques or at military installations. If you would like to take a photo of a Middle Eastern person, especially a woman, ask permission first.

Islam Islam is the predominant religion in the Republic of Turkey. It is based on five pillars:  Profession of faith, Prayer, Fasting, Charity and Pilgrimage.

  • Muslims pray five times a day: dawn, noon, afternoon, sunset and night. Muslims may pray in public places. In the workplace, a room or space is usually designated for prayer.
  • In the fall, Muslims observe a full month of fasting and festivities, called Ramadan. During Ramadan, Muslims abstain from eating, drinking and smoking between sunrise and sunset. When visiting during Ramadan, refrain from eating, drinking or smoking in public or in front of staff or business associates. Food will be available at hotels for non-Muslim guests. Do extend the traditional greetings of Ramadan, “Ramadan Kareem”  (“Happy – or blessed – Ramadan”).
  • During Ramadan, families and friends break their fasts together at a huge meal called iftar. Do accept an invitation to iftar. It is a wonderful experience and great introduction to family life in the Middle East.
